Swimming and Water Safety Roundtable
I wish to invite you to participate in Labor’s Swimming and Water Safety Roundtable with myself and Matt Thistlethwaite, Labor’s Shadow Assistant Minister for Treasury.
Last year 291 people drowned on our coastline, pools and waterways and the number of drowning deaths in Australia has been increasing in recent years. The Northern Territory has the highest drowning rate per capita in Australia. Eight people drowned between 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017.
Labor wants to get to the bottom of why this is occurring and develop policies to improve the teaching of swimming and water safety and keep Australians safe around water.
There are many Australians that do not receive adequate swimming and water safety education. The water safety education Australian children receive depends on where they live and in some cases on their parents income level.
A Shorten Labor Government is seeking your input into the development of a stronger national swimming and water safety strategy.
Please RSVP for the roundtable by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phone (08) 8928 0180. Once you have RSVP’d we will email you an agenda including the issues we will be discussing at the roundtable.
I look forward to seeing you at the roundtable.
