GETTING ON WITH THE JOB
After representing the NT at the ALP National Policy Forum and meeting with the US Consul General in Melbourne, today I’m joining the NT Government delegation at the North Australia Investment Forum in Cairns. The Forum provides the chance for key business and government leaders to showcase Northern Australia’s major project opportunities to international investors, showing them that the Territory is a great place to invest.
We need Commonwealth and private investment in our Northern Capital to work in partnership with Territory businesses, big and small. I look forward to joining the Chief Minister in working to attract investment and, in turn, create local jobs and business opportunities.
I was preparing to go to Canberra for Parliament next week to continue to advocate for the Territory’s interests. In an almost unprecedented move, Malcolm Turnbull has cancelled Parliament – an act that should be reserved for national tragedies and emergencies. This is unacceptable and I am concerned it will further damage public confidence in the Parliament.
Whilst we work for the prosperity of the Territory, we’ve seen nothing from Malcolm Turnbull for the Territory. Nothing yet from the NAIF, nothing from the Royal Commission and nothing substantial from the City Deal, all levers to get more development and commercial activity happening in Darwin and Palmerston. I call on Malcolm Turnbull to reverse his decision so we can get on with the job we were tasked by Australians to do.
