PENALTY RATES ACROSS MORE SECTORS UNDER ONGOING THREAT
Labor’s Shadow Assistant Minister, Lisa Chesters MP and Member for Solomon, Luke Gosling MP, will today meet with businesses that have chosen not to pass on the recent cut to Sunday penalty rates.
On 1 July thousands of hospitality, retail and pharmacy workers had their Sunday penalty rates cut. In the Solomon electorate, 8,072 people, or […]

AEC CUTS DISENFRANCHISE TERRITORIANS
By gutting the NT Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) office the Turnbull Government is cutting jobs in the Northern Territory and effectively silencing Indigenous Australians.
Jul 14 2017
The NT AEC office, responsible from 1,349,129 sq kilometres, will go from 15 people down to just three – ensuring many Territorians will not be enrolled to vote at the next election.

Despite promising a competitive and merit based process for ranking mobile […]

TURNBULL IGNORES THE NORTH AGAIN
Yesterday the Turnbull Government announced a new plan for nationwide shipbuilding activities. It is a pity their vision of a ‘nationwide’ shipbuilding plan is tainted with pork-barreling for marginal seats in South Australia which gets more than 95 percent of the $90 billion.
The Turnbull Government states their shipbuilding enterprise will have massive benefits for all […]

COME CLEAN ON CONTINUED PFAS USE IN DARWIN
I am very concerned about ABC News reports that Defence is still using firefighting foam with traces of PFAS chemicals at RAAF Base Darwin.
The Turnbull Government must be honest and transparent as it carries out current investigations into possible PFAS contamination in the area surrounding RAAF Darwin and Darwin International Airport.
I understand Defence still has not […]

PFAS INFO SESSIONS WELCOMED BUT NEED TO BE BETTER TARGETED
The Department of Defence held local community information sessions in Darwin this week to discuss their investigation into sites identified as having chemicals – known as PFAS and previously used in fire-fighting foam – on and around RAAF Base Darwin, Darwin international Airport and to a lesser extent Robertson Barracks.
With very few people attending, the […]

LABOR WELCOMES DELAYED DECISION
Labor welcomes the Turnbull Government’s announcement of a permanent Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs’ in the Northern Territory.
Labor has long been advocating for the Northern Territory to have its own, dedicated Deputy Commissioner, despite reports the Government was not going to fill this position.
A Deputy Commissioner will help provide support and assistance to the many […]
