LABOR SUPPORTING THE GREEK COMMUNITY IN NORTHCREST

22 April 2025

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will contribute $5 million to support the construction of a new community hub for the St Savvas of Kalymnos Greek Orthodox Church in Northcrest.

This election commitment comes almost nine months after the Lawler Labor Government approved the grant of land for the church and community centre — a significant milestone in delivering a long-awaited space for connection and culture in the heart of Darwin.

Once completed, the new St Savvas Greek Orthodox community hub will offer a vital meeting place for cultural events, education programs, and community outreach, strengthening the social fabric of Greater Darwin.

The project has been warmly welcomed by local parishioners, who have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.

The Albanese Labor Government remains committed to delivering essential infrastructure that supports Territorians now and into the future.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Solomon Luke Gosling:

“This election commitment will help deliver a landmark facility for Northern Australia’s Greek Orthodox community.

“This will be more than bricks and mortar — it will be a proud and lasting home for one of our Territory’s most vibrant communities.

“Labor backs community, culture, and connection. That’s why we’re supporting this project, which will serve generations of Territorians into the future.”
